Lead Front-End / UX Developer

The Position

We’re searching for a curious, team driven individual who is passionate about leveraging cutting edge web technology to deliver experiences that surpass user expectations.

As our Lead Front-end / UX Developer, your responsibilities will include all phases of interface development. From architecture and design, to implementation and user engagement. You will work closely with the technical co-founder, principal SWE and design team.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • >Lead the technical design, development and maintenance of our front-end, ensuring cross-browser and device compatibility.
  • >Collaborate closely with design and engineering team members to design, build and maintain a best in class user experience.
  • >Write and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code, while adhering to best industry practices and standards.
  • >Identify, debug, and resolve front-end issues.
  • >Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback in an effort to continuously improve our codebase and cross functional team skills.
  • >Stay current with the latest front-end technologies and industry trends and incorporate them into your work as needed.
  • >Contribute to driving improvements to our development processes, tools, and guidelines.

Ideal Experience

  • >5+ years experience building and deploying software applications.
  • >Worked on an application with 100,000+ active users.
  • >Worked in a startup environment. We’d like to see that you’ve helped build something from scratch, not just maintained part of an existing system.
  • >You’re analytical, run A/B tests and have used data to improve the interfaces you’ve built.
  • >Competent translating designs from modern UI/UX tools (Figma, etc.) into code.

Technical Requirements

  • >Strong proficiency building with Typescript.
  • >Deep understanding of base front-end technologies (HTML5/CSS3/JS).
  • >Advocate for testing of production code (Jest, etc.).
  • >Significant experience with frontend frameworks and client side state management using React.js / Redux / NextJS / etc.
  • >Well versed in responsive design principles and UX best practices.
  • >Demonstrated experience using CI/CD pipelines and Git in a team setting.

Bonus Points

  • >You’ve built rich text interfaces, ideally with SlateJS or Lexical.
  • >You’ve built an open source project, invention, start-up or product that's been used by others before.
  • >You can demonstrate you have a passion for prompt engineering and generative AI.
  • >An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design or another cross functional qualification.

  • >Competitive salary: NZ$130K-180K depending on experience. Non NZ applicant salary range will be adjusted based on country/location.
