Lead Interface Designer (UX / UI)

The Position

We’re currently on a hunt for a talented, detail-oriented individual with a deep love for user interface (UI) design and transforming complex ideas into intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use designs.

As our Lead UI Designer, you will be responsible for delivering top-notch and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces from start to finish. This includes initial research, wireframing and prototyping, design and user testing. You will be working closely with the technical co-founder, and technical team.

We’re seeking candidates who possess a strong creative vision, pay great attention to detail and can communicate efficiently. Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • >Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  • >Lead and drive the design process and team, while collaborating with engineers and talking with users.
  • >Maintain and evolve a scalable design system.
  • >Translate user feedback and activity into iterative product enhancements.
  • >Stay updated with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies.
  • >Initiate, conceptualize and implement design ideas and solutions to complex design problems.
  • >Utilize data from various sources to understand user behavior and improve UX and UI.

Ideal Experience

  • >5+ years of experience in UI/UX design.
  • >Experience building and leading a team of designers
  • >Portfolio featuring design thinking skills and great visual design.
  • >Experience in a startup environment, with a proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle.
  • >Experience in conducting user-research and usability testing.
  • >Proven aptitude for quick creative problem-solving and sharp attention to detail.

Design Requirements

  • >Expert proficiency in interface design software such as Figma (preferred), Sketch, etc.
  • >Strong knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology, particularly as applied to web-based applications.
  • >Understanding of visual design principles, typography, color, and layout.
  • >Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to understand what can be turned into a design.
  • >Experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions
  • >Comprehensive understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.
  • >Ability to assess design problems, then iterate solutions efficiently and intelligently.

Bonus Points

  • >Experience in interactive and visual design including: concept development, art direction, animation, illustration, type setting, etc.
  • >Passion, verging on obsession, for user-centered design and UX.
  • >You’ve created a side project, start-up, product or installation and shipped it into the wild.
  • >An undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction or other relevant cross functional experience.

  • >Competitive salary: NZ$120K-160K depending on experience. Non NZ applicant salary range will be adjusted based on country/location.
